Official Press Release:

Zoeller recognizes local law firm for charitable donations

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller recognized Burke Costanza & Carberry today for their outstanding contributions in the sixth annual March Against Hunger food drive.

The firm accepted a trophy, known as the “Attorney General’s Cup,” for winning the large firm division by donation $4,121 and 1,569 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. The trophy was presented and participants were recognized during a formal award ceremony today in Merrillville.

“For the sixth year in a row the members of my profession have stepped up to help put food on the tables of those struggling and in need of the most basic necessities,” Zoeller said. “These participants deserve recognition for selflessly giving their time and money to a worthy cause. With their help we were able to help countless families.”

“We are so proud of Burke Costanza & Carberry for taking home the Attorney General’s Cup for the third year in a row! They have really shown a deep dedication to the Food Bank and to hunger relief, and we are extremely grateful to them and to the Attorney General for making March Against Hunger happen,” said Food Bank of Northwest Indiana Executive Director Arleen Peterson.

The sixth annual food drive competition was between 43 participating law and nonprofit groups from Indiana and Kentucky. To help coordinate the donations, Zoeller teamed up with the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) and Feeding Indiana’s Hungry (FIsH) which serves as the umbrella organization for 11 regional food banks.

“Our firm is proud to be celebrating its third consecutive victory in the March Against Hunger competition,” said Ann Marie Woolwine, Associate Attorney. “The generosity of all members of our BCC team was the driving force behind this accomplishment. While we enjoyed the good-spirited competition and are thrilled to bring the Generals’ Cup to Northwest Indiana again, we truly hope that this competition continues to shed light on hunger in our area and spurs ongoing support for local food banks..”

“Once again, the lawyers in Indiana and their professional colleagues have gone above and beyond the call of duty,” said ISBA President Jim Dimos. “Their generosity in providing for the basic needs of our fellow Hoosiers is truly heartwarming and another reminder of how lawyers make a difference in their communities in so many different ways.”

In total, the March Against Hunger food drive competition generated $49,177 and 8,188 pounds of food for the state’s food banks this year.
